Since its launch in 2002, the consortium has developed and promoted different concepts now integrated into industry practices: integrated value chain management, collaborative operations planning, demand and revenue management mechanisms, etc.

Mission

The FORAC research consortium is a solid partnership between stakeholders in the forest products industry (Laval University, companies and governments) It aims to be an international reference recognized for its achievements and its collaborative dynamic. In order to improve the competitiveness of the Quebec forest and biosourced products industry, the consortium studies, develops and validates business models, methods and decision support technologies for the design and management of creation of innovative value, in a sustainable development perspective.

Professors, students and professionals carry out quality research in partnership with members in an interdisciplinary university setting.

The consortium realizes its mission by basing its actions on the following fundamental values: excellence, networking, relevance and communication. FORAC thus offers its partners the development of knowledge and advanced solutions, their transfer and the training of highly qualified personnel in the field of business engineering applied to the context of the forest products industry.

Objectives

The FORAC consortium works towards the achievement of the following objectives:

  1. Study, develop and validate decision support methods and technologies, inspired by the principles of Industry 4.0, for the design and management of the value chain, from a sustainable development perspective;
  2. Train highly qualified personnel in areas of expertise that reflect the needs of the industry;
  3. Contribute to the advancement of companies working in the forest and biobased products industry;
  4. Sharing research results with industry, governments, the scientific community and society.
