Collaborative initiatives for integrated management of forests and fire in Portugal
The severe rural fires of 2017 prompted the creation of a collaborative laboratory for integrated forest and fire management, with the goal of conducting applied research and transferring technology from academia to industry, while also supporting the design and evaluation of sectoral public policies. Nearly ten years on, the CoLAB has implemented large national and international collaborative projects and developed a growing portfolio of products and services that underpin its financial sustainability. This presentation will highlight key achievements, reflect on strengths and lessons learned, and discuss likely future trends in Portugal’s research and innovation landscape.
