Job offer at FORAC

FORAC research consortium is looking to hire a research professionnal. The person will act as a software developer C # and must have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. He/She will have to perform the analysis, modeling, programming, interface design, unit testing and integration, and documentation. It will also be brought to support students and participate in the writing of scientific articles. To read the full description of the position, please see the detailed offer (French only). First International Wood Supply Game Competition

The first international Wood Supply Game competition took place last September 30 where five teams from four different countries competed to assert their superiority in supply chain management. The first two places went to teams from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The third place went to the team at the University of Georgia in the U.S. who arrived one point short of the second place. The University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and Université Laval promises a tighter fight for the next competitions.


The Wood Supply Game simulates a value creation network in the forest products industry and participants must make management decisions to minimize the overall operational cost of the network. Visit the wood supply g. Visit the Wood Supply Game Web site.

Master's projects offers

FORAC is seeking candidates for two Masters projects in Industrial Engineering. Candidates must be comfortable with modeling, mathematical programming and the use of computer software. They must also have an interest in the study and analysis of cases from the service industry.


As part of these projects, the candidates will analyze 1 - different architectural approaches to management appointments online, as well as 2 - making various appointments online in the context of industry services.

Forest symposium - The forest and its products: promises for the future

In this International Year of Forests, the annual conference of the Association forestière de la Vallée du Saint-Maurice takes place as a symposium on forest products. 12 speakers, some of them known internationally, are planned for the 2 days of the event (November 9-10).

 

M. Luc LeBel, FORAC consortium's director, will do a presentation on the topic: L’entrepreneur forestier et son entreprise : éléments essentiels de la performance du réseau d’approvisionnement forestier. (French only)

OCTAS prize for FORAC Wood Supply Game!

Last May 28th, FORAC Research Consortium won an OCTAS prize with its online Wood Supply Game, in the E-learning,  business with fewer than 500 employees category. This prestigious annual competition recognizes the best achievements in the field of information technology (IT) in Quebec province.

Another nomination for Sophie D'Amours

We are pleased to announce the recent appointment of Professor Sophie D'Amours, director of the Consortium FORAC, as Chair of the Board of Directors, Center for Industrial Research of Quebec (CRIQ). CRIQ is a FORAC important partner since our launching in 2002. Congratulations to Pr. D'Amours for the appointment.

NSERC Strategic Network leadership for Sophie D'Amours

Minister of Industry announced funding for several groundbreaking, large-scale, multidisciplinary research projects during a keynote address at the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters conference held February, 2nd in Ottawa. The grants, totalling $56 million over five years, from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will support 11 research networks focused on areas of social and economic importance. The networks will create new market opportunities for various sectors, including manufacturing and forestry.

 

Each research network will receive between $4.8 million and $5.3 million over five years to create strategic partnerships that bring together university researchers, industry and government. They have been chosen through a peer-reviewed competition. Professor Sophie D'Amours will lead the NSERC Strategic Network on Value Chain Optimization, Université Laval obtained.
